Monte Alban : East Side San Jose

Varrio Monte Alban was started by a small group of  teenagers that lived in a low-income housing project in San Jose’s east side. The apartment complex  called Monte Alban Apartments, was made up of mostly first generation Mexican families on government aid that had been living there for over a decade. The gang was born as a means of self-preservation and protection from other gangs in neighboring housing projects. Within a year the gang had made a name for itself with the rival gangs and had garnered the attention of the city’s police anti-gang task force.
